Rooted in Art:

Bud, Blooms & Berries

COVID-19 might have put a damper on art lovers mingling in galleries at exhibition openings, but that hasn’t stopped the Botanical Art Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (BASNL) from celebrating a milestone. Our video, Rooted in Art, commemorates its fifth anniversary.

Shot against the backdrop of MUN Botanical Garden, an early and ongoing partner of BASNL, this video highlights BASNL’s aims to nurture a community of botanical artists in Newfoundland and Labrador, raise ecological awareness and promote appreciation of botanical art.

In 2016 BASNL was born.

A small group of artists gathered at MUN’s Botanical Garden to create a non-profit society dedicated to the dual purpose of botanical art: representing plants by combining scientific accuracy with the beauty of artistic expression.

Five years on, BASNL continues to grow, offer classes and workshops with local and international instructors, and mount exhibits of members’ work.

In the summer of 2020, BASNL mounted Rooted in Art: Buds, Blooms and Berries, the first virtual exhibition. More virtual exhibitions are planned.

BASNL welcomes new members of all experience levels.
