Details

Date: October 23-25, 2017
Instructors: International botanical artists Shevaun Doherty (Ireland) and Dianne Sutherland (UK).
Time: 9:30am- 4:30pm
Location: MUN Botanical Garden Conference Room, 306 Mount Scio Road, St. John's
Cost: $350 for 3 days ($300 for BASNL members. Annual membership January to January is $50)

Description

In this three-day workshop, Shevaun will be the main instructor for the first day and a half, while Dianne will assist. The last day and a half will see their roles reversed. In this way, participants will benefit from the expertise of both instructors.

Topics will include various elements of botanical painting, rather than working on completing one specific piece of artwork. For example, Shevaun and Dianne will demonstrate how to paint leaves, cones, berries, buds, etc. Included will be techniques to represent shine and other textures and fine details such as hairs and thorns. As part of the process, you will learn about lighting the subject, composing the page, watercolour techniques, such as various watercolour washes and dry brushing and colour mixing.

A suggested materials list will be provided, although this will usually be your regular paints and paper, etc. Some samples of other paints will be available for you to try out. Registrants will have an opportunity to add their own topics specific to their current botanical work.

About the Instructors

Shevaun and Dianne have been working together for a number of years, sharing their knowledge and passion for botanical art in workshops like these.

We are very fortunate that they have decided to come to our province. Hosted by our newly formed Botanical Art Society, Shevaun and Dianne will help us grow our own individual skills as botanical artists. One of the main focuses of our society is education and membership to our society is open to artists of all skill levels.
