Approach / Inspiration
I began drawing horses and dogs as a child and was fascinated with the details in fur, hair and the way the animals held their head or the look in their eyes. My first art purchase (with my hard earned teenager’s allowance!) was a print of Albert J Casson of a horse completed in pointillism. This print still hangs in our home and is a reminder of what initially sparked my interest in pursuing detail and realism. As an adult, I began taking classes and workshops in acrylics and much later, watercolour. Although I enjoy looking at, and painting “the big picture”, I cannot help but be fascinated by the close up view that provides me with an examination of the details. Finally, discovering the world of plants, I am able to expand my enjoyment of obsessing on details while learning a new art form in botanical art.
Biography
I am a music educator by profession but have always enjoyed art, both as a viewer and participant. Although retired from teaching, my interests still include music, taking classes and workshops in acrylics and watercolour and enjoying the parallels between music and art. Travel is another one of my interests and each trip is often combined with taking hundreds of photos that may spark a painting or two down the road. I am currently living in St. John’s, NL with my husband and three dogs.
Exhibitions / Awards
My watercolours are in private collections at home and abroad. I have participated in group exhibitions at MUNBG and private locations in St. John’s, NL.
