Approach / Inspiration

I became inspired at a late age to capture the beauty and intricacies of nature in the medium of watercolour. I am driven to improving my painting skills and to produce pleasing and exciting paintings of flora. I was inspired to take up botanical art painting in my recent retirement by the leadership and work of Margaret Walsh Best.

Biography

I was born on Bell Island but currently live in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador. It was while working at Memorial University from 2000-2004 and later living abroad from 2005-2014 that I began to experiment with drawing/painting. I quickly became enamoured with watercolours. I began to offer weekly adult classes in countries in which I worked. In 2016, I took a particular interest in botanical art and started to participate in workshops and courses. Margaret Walsh Best has taught me the basic techniques of botanical art and I am currently enrolled in two online courses dealing with drawing in botanical art. I wanted to share the benefits of botanical art with others in the province so I recently volunteered as Vice-President of the newly formed Botanical Art Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (BASNL).

Exhibitions / Awards

My watercolours are in private collections at home and abroad. I have participated in group exhibitions at MUNBG and private locations in St. John’s, NL.
